Exporting and Sharing Q&A Content
DeepPaper AI lets you save and share your paper Q&A chats in several ways. This guide shows you how to export, copy, and save your conversations.
History Page Features
On the history page, you can:
- See all your chats with the current paper (both active and saved)
- Download chats as Markdown files
- Copy the whole chat in HTML format for tools like Zotero/Mendeley/EndNote
- Copy individual Q&A in HTML format
Getting to the History Page
You can get to the history page in two ways:
- Click "View History" on the paper card (only shows if you have chats)
- Click the chat button on the paper page, then click "View History"
Exporting Chats
Downloading as Markdown
To save a whole chat:
- Go to the history page
- Pick the chat you want to save
- Click "Download" at the top
- The chat will download as a Markdown file
The file includes:
- Paper title
- Chat date
- All Q&A (with formatting like code blocks and lists)
This works great with tools like Obsidian and Notion.
Copying Chats
Copying a Whole Chat
To copy everything:
- Go to the history page
- Pick the chat you want to copy
- Click "Copy" at the top
- The formatted chat will copy to your clipboard
- Paste it anywhere you want
Copying Single Q&A
To copy just one Q&A:
- Find the answer you want
- Look for the "Copy" button below it
- Click to copy both your question and the answer
What Gets Copied
The copy keeps all formatting:
- Clear labels for questions and answers
- Markdown formatting (headings, lists, code blocks)
- Math formulas (if any)

Saving Chats
To save your current chat and start a new one:
- Click "Archive" at the top of the chat
- The system will save your chat and start a new one
- You can find saved chats on the history page

Saved chats show up in order on the history page:
- Newest chats are at the top
- Click any chat to see its full content
- Each chat has its own download and copy options

Common Questions
Does the export include the paper?
No, it only includes your questions and AI's answers. If the AI quotes the paper, those quotes will be included.
Will formatting stay the same?
Most formatting stays, but it depends on where you paste it. Modern editors (like Word, Google Docs, Notion) usually keep the formatting.
Is there a size limit?
No, you can copy chats of any length.
How to save before archiving?
If you want to save your current chat before archiving:
- Copy the chat to your clipboard
- Or download it as a Markdown file
- Then click "Archive" to start a new chat
